Giving Instruction

Giving Instruction is an expression that is used in order that other person does what we instruct or request.

The example expressions of giving instruction :
o Open your book!
o Close the door, please!
o Be quiet, please!
o Move the chair!
o Pass me the sugar, please!
o Don’t be cruel!
o Come in, please!
o Open the window, please!
o Pass me the sugar, please!
o Stand up, please!
When the commanding word is a verb, you use the infinitive without to.
Ex:
1. Write the sentences. 2. Cover the food.
3. Take the medicine three times a days. 4. Wash the bed sheet.
5. Sweep the floor.
If you do not use a verb as a commanding word , you use be + adjective.
Ex:
1. Be courageous. 2. Be a good student.
3. Be yourself. 4. Be happy.
5. Be strong.
When you forbid some one to do something, you use don't + verb infinitive without to.
Ex:
1. Don’t climb. 2. Don’t close the web page.
3. Don’t throw the garbage into the ditch. 4. Don’t put your trust in him.
5. Don’t be cruel.
You often put the word ‘please’ at the beginning or at the end of an instruction. You use it to make the instruction sounds more polite.
Ex:
1. Please sit down!./Sit down, please!
2. Please don’t go!./Don’t go, please!

Note : The tense used in giving instruction is “simple present”
Example:
Any : What should we do after finish the discussion?
Teacher : Please do the exercise on page 15.
Any : Yes, Ma’am.
